IIUC the assumption "if gnus is not behaving too crazily" is not quite
warranted: more specially, I think it does not save the state of
messages in the standard Maildir way. Instead, it's saved in
a Gnus-specific file.
Stefan

When running those things in the current buffer directory is what you
normally want..
A fast way to use your own path could also be just doing
M-x grep -nH -e "string" /path/
where also the /path/ has the smart completion.

Mm I don't see why you would have two copies, if offlineimap is
bidirectional and if gnus is not behaving too crazily the changes you do
to your Maildir will be also written on the remote imap server.
Is that correct?
Another way is to have an imap server running locally on the machine and
that should be even easier...

 Hi list,
I used Vim in the past heavily - meaning I'm still learning about the
"Emacs" way of doing things. Vimpulse is doing a great job for me :)
I've learned about emacsclient.
However one of the most used actions I run is
- grep
- gnu id utils
- kind of compiler (eg make)
And they all depend on a current directory (most of the time)

 1. Reduce heater's room temperature
For each extra degree (Celsius) of temperature, your heater will
consume 7 to 11%
more energy. Adjust it to 18degrees which is also better for your
health.
2. Thanks for this information.
Ok. Nowadays, when i want to access a crypto partition, i do the
following steps, open a shell, su to root, /sbin/cryptsetup luksOpen,
mount, create a file, edit, save, umount, /sbin/cryptsetup luksClose.
It's very annoying. So i want to make a wrapper function. Of course,

Ah, very good thanks. In my case since the face name is dynamically
generated it was of the form
(propertize str 'face (list (genFace "base") (genFace "base" y))
'gnus-face t) where genFace uses (intern) to convert a string name to
its internal symbol.
thanks a lot.

Yeah. You probably won't find TRAMP much help in writing that, frankly,
because it does a lot of things that are entirely irrelevant but quite complex
compared to what you want.
Anyway, it hooks in through the `file-name-handler-alist', and the methods
`tramp{,completion-}-file-name -handler' which then go ahead and act on the

I want to write a function for my own use. It is going to be a wraper
of an operation sequence, such as, change to root, run some shell and
create and open a file. But i even can't find to use which tramp
function, and how does tramp start.
Could anyone give some advices?

What major mode(s) have you been scrolling in? What was your previous
version of Emacs, the one that scrolled quickly? How large is large
(100kB, 1 Mb, 10 Mb, ....)?
